Ribbons In Park Ridge Honors Girl Who Died At Camp
(CBS) -- Numerous restaurants, movie theaters and even City Hall in Park Ridge have gone purple this month. The transformation is part of a campaign to honor a local girl who died last month.
Purple was 7-year-old Kate Babich's favorite color, and it now covers the City of Park Ridge.
The girl passed away last month after collapsing during a summer cheerleading camp. To honor Kate, several close friends of the Babich family formed "Ribbons for Kate" and got behind an effort to tie purple ribbons along Park Ridge streets.
One of the group's members, Julie Vanderpoel, says the community ran with the idea.
"Within a couple of hours, there were thousands of people that were totally on board," Vanderpoel says. "The amount of support and respect that the community is giving to each other at this time to help find and hang the ribbons has been unbelievable."
Once the ribbons come down July 15, Vanderpoel says the community will look for other ways to support the Babich family.
