Restaurants Provide Taste Of Chicago Preview In Daley Plaza
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Taste of Chicago opens in two weeks and today at Daley Plaza, the downtown lunchtime crowd got a preview.
Richard Drews is president of Dinky Donuts, which will be appearing at Taste for the first time.
"And here they are, hot and fresh... On a level of fluffdom, have they achieved total fluffosity?"
"Love it," says a customer.
Drews started Dinky Donuts three years ago. Before that, and for many years, he was an opera singer.
"Dinky Donuts are paying the bills," Drews said. "The Duke of Mantua (a character in Verdi's 'Rigoletto') used to pay the bills."
Alligator sausage will be back at Taste from Chicago's Dog House. New this year: rattlesnake and rabbit sausage.
Customer Brian Mazurksi of Clarendon Hills was trying rattlesnake for the first time.
"I am always up for trying something new," he said.
Mazurski said it had a little spice to it and would be something he would try again.
Taste of Chicago runs July 8-12 in Grant Park.
Almost 60 restaurants will be there; 19 are making their first appearances.
Chicago celebrity chef Graham Elliot will be at Taste for one day selling his lobster corn dogs.
