Reports: Royals Sign Alex Gordon To 4-Year Deal
(CBS) One of the White Sox's high-profile options in the free-agent market is off the board, headed elsewhere.
The Royals have reached a four-year deal to bring outfielder Alex Gordon back to Kansas City, according to reports. The deal is worth $72 million, according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.
Gordon, who will turn 32 in February, is a four-time Gold Glove-winning outfielder and three-time All-Star. He hit .271 with 13 homers, 48 RBIs and an .809 OPS in 104 games in 2015 in helping lead Kansas City to the World Series title.
The White Sox have continued to be active in the free-agent market and do their due diligence on outfielders, including Gordon before he was off the board, Yoenis Cespedes and Justin Upton. Chicago was unwilling to extend Gordon a four-year deal, according to reports.
