Reports: Rays Trade David Price To Tigers
(CBS) The biggest name on the market was moved just before the Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
The Rays sent ace left-hander David Price to the Tigers as part of a three-team deal that also involvedthe Mariners, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal and other outlets reported. The move came about six hours after Detroit's biggest competition in the American League, Oakland, acquired Boston ace left-hander Jon Lester in another blockbuster deal.
Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson was pulled in the top of the seventh inning from the game against the White Sox and said goodbye to teammates, and reports indicated he was being shipped to the Mariners in the trade. Seattle was sending second baseman Nick Franklin to Tampa Bay, according to Rosenthal and CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.
The Rays will also receive left-hander Drew Smyly and 18-year-old shortstop prospect Willy Adames from the Tigers, according to reports. Adames is one of Detroit's top five prospects.
A four-time All-Star, the 28-year-old Price is making $14 million this year and is under contract through 2015, though he figures to get a heftier payday in the offseason, as he's eligible for arbitration. He's 11-8 with a 3.11 ERA with a sparkling 8.22 K/BB ratio.
The Tigers and Price didn't discuss a long-term extension prior to the trade, Rosenthal reported.
