Reports: Ray Rice Suspended 2 Games For Aggravated Assault Charge
(CBS) Ravens running back Ray Rice has been suspended for two games, according to multiple reports, after being charged with felony aggravated assault for allegedly striking his then-fiancee and now-wife Janay in a February alteration that was caught on camera. The NFL hasn't yet officially announced the suspension.
Rice will miss the Ravens' season opener against the Bengals and the following week's contest against the Steelers.
Rice's suspension will be unpaid, so he'll lose $470,588, and ESPN.com also reported he'll be fined $58,000 and asked to take counseling.
Rice was accused of striking his then-fiancee unconscious on Feb. 15 and a felony aggravated assault charge followed. Since then, he's been accepted into a pretrial intervention program that's allowed him to avoid jail time -- and eventually, the charge could be eliminated from his record.
Shortly after TMZ unearthed video of the incident, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome told reporters, "It doesn't look good." Nevertheless, the Ravens have supported Rice through the whole progress, even holding -- somewhat curiously -- a press conference for Rice in which Janay apologized for her role in the incident as well.
