Report: Former '85 Bears File Super Bowl Shuffle Lawsuit
(CBS) Six former Chicago Bears who were a part of the 1985 Super Bowl-winning team have filed a lawsuit against the purported rights holder and licensing agent of the famed "Super Bowl Shuffle" performance that they partook in, according to Forbes.com.
The Bears joining in the lawsuit -- which was filed in Cook County Circuit Court -- are Richard Dent, Steve Fuller, Jim McMahon, Willie Gault, Mike Richardson and Otis Wilson. Thy filed it against Julia Meyer, who claims to own the rights, and Renaissance Marketing Corporation, the exclusive agent for licensing the Shuffle, the website reported.
The lawsuit argues the Shuffle was intended to raise money for needy Chicago families, Forbes.com reported.
"The six former Bears allege that the defendants do not have permission to commercially exploit their identities, images, names, likenesses, voices and performances from the Super Bowl Shuffle and that the defendants have misappropriated same for their own benefit," Forbes.com's Darren Heitner wrote.
