Report: Cubs On Hamels' Approved Trade List
(CBS) The Phillies placed ace left-hander Cole Hamels on revocable waivers recently, and the Cubs have reportedly made a claim on him. While that doesn't mean a deal will come to fruition -- the clubs have 48 hours to discuss a deal after the claim -- one hurdle is out of the way.
The Cubs are on Hamels' approved trade list, ESPN's Jayson Stark reported. That's important because Hamels has a partial no-trade clause that he can invoke to block a trade to Chicago, but he's apparently willing to go to the rebuilding organization budding with young talent.
Hamels is having a stellar season, going 6-6 with a 2.42 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. He is under contract through 2018, with nearly $100 million owed to that point, with a team option for 2019.
Even with this development, a deal would be difficult to pull off, as 670 The Score's Bruce Levine wrote this morning, because Philadelphia's asking price is sky high.
