Report: Bulls Make 'Attractive' Offer To Spurs' Jim Boylen To Be Top Assistant
(CBS) The Bulls have offered Spurs assistant Jim Boylen the top assistant's job in Chicago, Yahoo Sports NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
The Bulls are open to giving Boylen the associate head coach title, Wojnarowski reported, which would mark a promotion for Boylen, who's worked under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio since 2013. Prior to that, Boylen was a Pacers assistant from 2011-'13 under Frank Vogel and was the head coach at the University of Utah from 2007-'11.
Boylen is 50. New Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg indicated at his introductory press conference that he'd like to hire a veteran assistant with NBA experience.
Hoiberg's held in high regard for his offensive acumen, and while Boylen's a well-rounded coach, he'd likely have a focus on the defensive end, Wojnarowski said in an interview on 670 The Score on Friday. Wojnarowski called Chicago offer an "attractive" one for Boylen.
Indiana was first in the league in defensive efficiency in 2012-'13 and ninth in 2011-'12 while Boylen was there.
"He comes from a more defensive background from his college days as a head coach and assistant coach," Wojnarowski said.
"He's a guy people see as a future head coach possibly in the league ... He's certainly well-regarded."
