Bears Hire Adam Gase As Offensive Coordinator

(CBS) The Bears have made another high-profile addition to their coaching staff.

Chicago has hired Adam Gase as its new offensive coordinator, the team announced Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old Gase has spent the last six seasons in Denver, working two as a receivers coach, then two as a quarterbacks coach and the past two as the team's offensive coordinator. Under Gase's direction, the Broncos finished first in total points in 2013 (37.9) and second in total points this past season (30.1). A source tells Rapoport that Gase signed a three-year deal.

Gase worked the past four years under new Bears coach John Fox. He has 12 years of experience in the NFL altogether, having started as a scouting assistant for the Lions in 2003 and working his way up to quarterbacks coach. He worked in Detroit until 2008, when he went to San Francisco for a year before moving on to Denver.

Gase has worked with future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning for the past three seasons in Denver.

Gase appears to have the approval of one of Chicago's top players in Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long.

Before new general manager Ryan Pace was hired, Gase interviewed for the Bears' coaching position that ended up going to Fox. He also interviewed with the 49ers and Falcons for their head coaching positions.

The Bears have now filled its three primary assistant coaching slots, as they announced Monday that they hired Jeff Rodgers as special teams coordinator and confirmed Tuesday that Vic Fangio will be the new defensive coordinator.
