Report: Bears Close To Re-Signing OL Eben Britton
(CBS) The Bears have zeroed in on re-signing offensive lineman Eben Britton following injuries to Matt Slauson and Roberto Garza in Week 1, Chicago Tribune beat writer Brad Biggs reported Tuesday afternoon.
The move is expected to be completed sometime later Tuesday, Biggs reported. It comes in response to guard Slauson and center Garza sustaining high ankle sprains that are expected to keep them out of Sunday's game at San Francisco and potentially for several weeks, according to Biggs.
The 26-year-old Britton spent training camp with the Bears before being one of their final cuts. He also spent last season with Chicago, playing in 13 games and filling the role as the sixth lineman in jumbo sets. He's primarily a guard and tackle.
Brian de la Puente filled in at center for Garza in Sunday's loss to the Bills, while Michael Ola replaced Slauson. Both graded out well, according to Pro Football Focus, so while the Bears are lacking depth, the offensive line still held its own.
