Report: Amid Turmoil, Golden State Assistant Brian Scalabrine Gets Reassigned By Mark Jackson
(CBS) Warriors assistant coach and former Bulls fan favorite Brian Scalabrine was forced to be reassigned by coach Mark Jackson amid turmoil on the coaching staff, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
Scalabrine is a first-year assistant who is highly valued by the ownership group and front office, but an "increasingly dysfunctional atmosphere" -- a staple under Jackson that has his own job in danger -- on the coaching staff led to the move, Yahoo! Sports reported.
From Wojnarowski:
It is immediately unclear what kind of a role to which the Warriors will transition Scalabrine, but management has no intention of letting him leave the organization, sources said. Over the past two years, Jackson's difficulty with managing his coaching staff and creating a functional work environment has developed into one of the issues that threatens his future on the job, league sources said.
Scalabrine, who joined the staff in July, was Jackson's choice as an assistant coach. For two straight years, Jackson has had issues with assistant coaches that he hired.
The 36-year-old Scalabrine had an 11-year playing career, the final two seasons of which came in Chicago, where he was beloved by the home crowd. Scalabrine turned down an offer in 2012 to become an assistant with the Bulls under Tom Thibodeau.
