Report: Alleged Rape Victim Went To Patrick Kane's Home Because She Didn't Want Friend To Go Alone
(CBS) -- Sources tell the Buffalo News that the woman who has accused Blackhawks star Patrick Kane of sexual assault only went to Kane's suburban Buffalo home to accompany a friend.
A friend of the alleged victim told the Buffalo News, "They were at SkyBar, and Kane invited them to his home. Her friend really wanted to go to Kane's house, and she didn't want her friend to go there alone. It wasn't her idea to go there."
The Buffalo News says two other sources gave them similar information.
Police in Hamburg, N.Y. are investigating if a rape occurred at Kane's home on Aug. 2, but he hasn't been charged.
The victim's colleagues spoke out after they felt she was maligned by the bar owner's comments that a woman was hanging all over Kane that night.
Meanwhile, Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita would not confirm that his office is investigating and spoke to reporters in general terms about cases, saying even mention of an investigation can ruin a person's reputation.
Sedita says Kane is not getting preferential treatment because of his celebrity.
Earlier Wednesday, EA Sports announced that it was taking Kane off of the cover of its NHL 16 video game in light of rape allegations.
