Rep. Adam Kinzinger Won't Support Donald Trump For President

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois congressman Adam Kinzinger says he cannot support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Appearing on CNN on Wednesday he said he "doesn't see how" he can support the billionaire businessman's campaign.

In an email, Kinzinger's communications director, Maura Gillespie said: "For months, the Congressman has said he wants to support the GOP candidate.

"He's not there yet and doesn't see a path to get there at this time.

"He will support his colleagues in Illinois and in Congress, and will continue to put the good of the country above partisan politics."

Donald Trump and his senior political advisers are becoming increasingly estranged as the general election kicks off in earnest.

CBS News reports, Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort is no longer trying to steer the Republican nominee off harmful or controversial topics, and is now just trying to focus on the mechanics of the campaign.

Trump raised nearly $80 million in the month of July-- an increase of about 30 percent from his $55 million in June.
