Remains Found In Garfield Park Lagoon Identified As Missing Rockford Boy
(CBS) -- Chicago Police confirm that DNA from the remains of a toddler found in the Garfield Park lagoon matches that of a missing boy from Rockford.
Kyrian Knox, a two-year-old African-American boy from Rockford who was last seen around mid-August. Rockford police said at the time they did not believe that Knox was abducted and was last seen in the care of a family friend.
Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says police have gotten word from the FBI lab in Quantico and they then traveled to Rockford to notify the family.
"What'll happen now is, we will communicate these results to the Medical Examiner's office," he said. "This will be formally classified as a death investigation and we will work very hard to determine how Kyrian died and how he became dismembered and put into a lagoon in Chicago."
The remains were discovered over the Labor Day weekend and were badly decomposed. Police drained the lagoon and found the head, hands, and feet of the child, but not the torso.
