Reds Play-By-Play Man Thom Brennaman Was So Salty Over 'Let's Go Cubbies' Chants
(CBS) Reds television play-by-play man Thom Brennaman didn't take kindly over the weekend to Chicago fans chanting "Let's go Cubbies" at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati as the visitors took three of four games from the hosts.
During the ninth inning of Friday's broadcast as the Cubs romped their way to an 8-1 win -- a night after they won 16-0 behind a Jake Arrieta no-hitter and two days before they won 9-0 -- Brennaman explained that he thought Cubs fans were going too far in displaying their enthusiasm with a familiar refrain.
"It's one thing to go into the other team's ballpark and buy the tickets and come to the game, and that's great," Brennaman said. "Support your team. I think everybody feels that way. But when you start the chant about 'Let's go Cubbies' and you're up by six runs in the ninth inning, that's where the rub oftentimes happens with ..."
Brennaman then paused for several seconds.
"Enough already," he said.
Brennaman worked as a broadcaster for the Cubs on TV and radio in the early 1990s.
