Rainy Day Ahead For Chicago Area
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Thanks to the mild temperatures, Chicago will avoid the heavy snow expected to blanket much of Wisconsin on Tuesday, but the area should get a fair amount of rain.
The rain was expected to begin falling in the late morning or early afternoon. A few scattered thunderstorms also are possible, but the storm will largely be on the mild side, according to the National Weather Service.
Severe thunderstorms are not expected for the Chicago area, but a few strong storms are possible far south, in areas like Bloomington and Champaign.
The same storm system bringing the rain to Chicago has been producing heavy snow in parts of Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota; prompting blizzard warnings in some areas.
Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for virtually all of Wisconsin and much of northern Michigan, including the entire Upper Peninsula. The far southern parts of Wisconsin could get 6 to 9 inches of snow. The rest of the state and northern Michigan could see 12 to 18 inches.
The Chicago area could see a few snow showers on Wednesday, but no accumulation is expected.
Temperatures will dip into the upper 20s to low 30s Thursday and Friday, and then could get back up in the 40s over the weekend.
