Quinn, Rauner Squabble Over Illinois' Economy
(CBS) -- Governor Pat Quinn was using a tech-savvy North Side company to make the case that he is bringing thousands of jobs to Illinois, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
With a $2.5 million state investment in equipment and a build-out of its Logan Square building, Coyote Logistics has announced it is adding 500 jobs to the thousand it already has there.
Gov. Quinn says the transportation and technology company is an example of his success in creating jobs and improving the state's economy.
"Our state, in the last month, was leading the Midwest in job creation, second only to Texas in the whole country at creating new jobs thanks to companies like Coyote Logistics, which is adding jobs," he said.
Quinn chided Republican opponent Bruce Rauner who had trouble remembering at a recent debate which of his companies created jobs.
Meanwhile, Rauner was Was on the Southwest Side at Lapham-Hickey Steel saying the Quinn administration is failing manufacturing companies which should be thriving.
"Manufacturing is making a resurgence all over the United States because energy costs in America have been brought down and we're more competitive internationally, but Illinois is not competitive inside the U.S. and a lot of manufacturing companies are relocating. They are moving to Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, they are moving to more business-friendly, pro-manufacturing states," Rauner said.
Rauner told workers at the plant that the elections are only eight days away and he needs their votes to change things for the better.
