Quiet weather for the rest of the week for Chicago after three nights of severe storms
CHICAGO (CBS) — Monday night's derecho developed in eastern Iowa, creating destructive winds to 97 mph in Dubuque County and the storm complex charged to the Chicago area, bringing hurricane-force wind gusts.
Multiple tornadoes developed along the derecho. The National Weather Service has six survey teams out on Tuesday. Their goal is to examine 29 different paths of potential damage. The surveys may take several days.
Thankfully, a quiet weather pattern is shaping for storm surveys and clean-up.
On Tuesday, a cool front crosses the Chicago area, ushering in a cool, dry air mass that will lock in place through the weekend.
Each day will feature a light lake breeze with cooler conditions at the lakeside.
The passage of the front today could trigger a 20% chance of stray showers, mainly south of I-80.
