Priest Removed Amid Investigation Into His Computer

(CBS) -- A Chicago priest is off the job and an investigation into items found on his computer is now in the hands of police.

The Archdiocese of Chicago removed Rev. Octavio Munoz Capetillo over the weekend. They won't say what was on his computer, only that it concerned them enough to notify detectives.

Father Munoz was recently appointed to St. Pancratius on the city's Southwest Side. One parishioner CBS 2 talked with Monday found the allegations hard to believe.

A church administrator will take over duties at the parish.

"The Archdiocese is committed to ensuring those serving our parishioners are fit for ministry. Archbishop (Blase) Cupich offers his assurance of prayers and solidarity with the community at St. Pancratius, knowing that this development is unsettling and he pledges to provide updates on this situation as they become available," a written statement from the Archdiocese said.

No charges have been filed.
