Police Warn Of Streeterville Carjackings, Robbery
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are asking for the public's help in apprehending two men wanted in connection with a series of carjackings and a robbery in the Streeterville neighborhood in the last week.
In each of the incidents, the suspects approached people while they were exiting their vehicles inside of parking garages and showed a gun, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.
The most recent carjacking occurred about 8:30 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of East Illinois Street, said police News Affairs Office Jose Estrada.
A 31-year-old man was robbed of his 2007 Jeep Cherokee when a male approached his vehicle, tapped on the window, displayed a gun, and forced the driver from the vehicle, Estrada said.
The suspect in that carjacking is described as a black male, about 30 years old, standing between 5-foot-11 and 6-feet, weighing about 210 pounds and wearing dark clothing.
About 9:20 a.m. Sunday, a 39-year-old man was robbed shortly after he parked his vehicle in the 500 block of North McClurg Court, Estrada said. A Jeep Cherokee approached and a male wearing dark clothing exited the vehicle, displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's belongings.
The victim, who was not injured, complied and the suspect got back in the Jeep Cherokee and the vehicle sped away, Estrada said.
Also, a 31-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were inside a black 2014 Jeep Cherokee exiting a parking space about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of North McClurg Court, when a white van pulled up behind them and blocked their vehicle, Estrada said. A male approached, showed a handgun, forced them to exit their vehicle and took the Jeep.
The suspect then drove away in the Jeep with the white van following, Estrada said. The vehicle was the only thing taken and no one was injured.
Also listed on the community alert was a stolen grey 2014 Chevrolet Cruz, but Estrada could not immediately provide information on that vehicle's theft.
The suspects are considered armed and dangerous, police said.
Anyone with information on the carjackings or the robbery is asked to contact police at (312) 742-5778.
