ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- A Cicero man was charged Friday in connection with the targeted shooting of a teenage girl and her mother in southwest suburban Romeoville.

Erick M. Maya, 23, of 5600 Park Avenue, Cicero, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow said is a news release.

Romeoville Police Chief Mark Turvey said one of the four "people of interest" brought in for questioning on Thursday was the suspect.

A judge set bond at $5 million in court on Saturday.

Maya had previously been in a dating relationship with the daughter, 15, Turvey said.

She remains in critical condition, and police have not been able to talk with her. The 33-year-old mother is in good condition.

The mother and daughter were getting ready to go to school Thursday morning, when a gunman approached as they were getting into an SUV in their driveway around 7 a.m.

The suspect shot the daughter twice in the head, then shot the mother in the neck, Turvey said.

The mother and daughter were taken to a local hospital, but later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, due to the severity of their injuries.

"They're both still alive. The 15-year-old girl is still in very critical condition," Turvey said.

Her mother was last reported in serious condition.

The other three people who had been questioned in the shooting turned out not to have any connection to the case. Two of them were released without charges. The third was taken to the Will County jail on two outstanding warrants.

Schools in Romeoville were placed on a "soft lockdown" for a couple hours while investigators searched the area, but police have said they do not believe the public was in danger, as the shooting was not random.
