Chase Ends In Crash In Oak Forest

UPDATED: 1/22/2015 9:40 a.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Oak Forest police say they're looking into whether a person arrested near the crash of a stolen SUV this morning was the same person who stole it.

Oak Forest Police Sgt. Tom Lynch says that around 7:45 a.m., a person was arrested on 155th Street just east of Cicero Avenue, within a block of where the stolen SUV crashed.

Sgt. Lynch says the suspect had been inside a resident's vehicle and is being charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle. Police say the resident had called 911 to report a suspicious person in his car.

A little over five hours earlier, a stolen SUV crashed near the intersection of 155th and Cicero, hitting a ComEd utility pole and knocking out electricity for about 45 minutes to about 1,600 homes and businesses, according to ComEd.

Police say the GMC Envoy had been stolen overnight in Markham, around 1:20 a.m.

At some point after the theft and before the crash, Alsip police pulled over the driver of the SUV, but the driver sped away, and Alsip police told Oak Forest police their officers did not chase the SUV.

Police are investigating whether the person arrested for breaking into a car on 155th Street was the same person who stole and crashed the SUV.
