As Police Search For Gunmen In Paris Terror Attack, Chicagoans Show Support

An intense search is underway for the suspects in an attack on a French satirical magazine.

CBS 2's Mike Parker reports the terrorists who stormed the editorial office of Charlie Hebdo magazine bent on mass murder, got what they wanted.

After the killings inside, home video shows the gunmen as they fled, spotting a wounded police officer on the sidewalk and opened fire. He was executed.

All that bloodshed because of the magazines satiric pokes at Muslim extremists and its cartoons showing Allah.

French police have identified the shooters as brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi who are both in their 30's and 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad.

"The lone wolf is harder to predict, harder to anticipate, but this type of is much more devastating results with more people killed," said CBS 2 Security Consultant Ross Rice.

At nightfall, thousands turned out to honor the victims near the scene of the massacre and to defend the concept of free speech.

In Chicago Wednesday night, some 100 people paused for a moment of silence at the Alliance Francaise. They heard a vow from the French Consul General Vincent Floreani.

"The terrorists wanted France to be on its knees but we are standing up together here tonight," Floreani.

The consul general read a letter from Mayor Emanuel. It said in part, "Chicago has always been a city with a big heart. But that heart is broken with the loss of these 12 victims."
