Police Release Surveillance Photos Of Person Wanted In CTA Bus Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) - Chicago Police have released surveillance photos of the suspect who allegedly shot three people on a CTA bus Monday evening in Chatham, near 77th and State.
Police say around 6:17 p.m. Monday, the suspect exited the bus and then pulled out a handgun, firing into the rear window.
An 18-year-old man was shot multiple times in his stomach, arm and chest, and an 18-year-old woman was shot once under her arm, both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
A 59-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the left side, and took himself to St. Bernard Hospital.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she was confident police were working hard to identify the gunman.
"We want to make sure, obviously, that our passengers on the CTA – and I think that they are, whether it's bus or it's rail – are safe; and one of the safety precautions that we took is making sure that we installed the cameras, so that if anything happened we'd be able to respond to it in real time," she said.
Police brought in a person of interest for questioning after the shooting, but that person was released without charges.
