Police Release New Information In Search For Rest-Stop Killer

UPDATE: Illinois State Police confirm murder suspect Terence Doddy was taken into custody in Beloit, Wisconsin, on Friday.

(CBS) – Illinois State Police have released more information about a Rockford man suspected of killing two people, including a woman at a northern Illinois rest stop, and they are warning the public he may be trying to hide in campgrounds or outdoor areas.

At the center of a nationwide manhunt is 36-year-old Terence Doddy. He's wanted in connection with the murders of Tonya Bargman, 44, of Monticello and Todd Hansmeier, 37.

On Monday, Doddy is alleged to have fatally beat Hansmeier, an insurance salesman in Rockford whom he knew, and then set an office building on fire to conceal the murder. Police say he stole Hansmeier's car and fled south.

The next day, police say, he killed Bargman at the Willow Creek stop at Sterling, Illinois, on Interstate 39. An attendant at the rest stop found Bargman dead in a restroom at around 8:30 p.m. Surveillance video shows Bargman was attacked by a man as she left the restroom.

Bargman is believed to be a random victim.

State police investigators on Thursday released surveillance images of Bargman's gray 2013 Nissan Altima, which had license plates BARGMN2 and a silver-colored "Illini Nissan" decal on the lower-rear bumper of the vehicle.

Authorities also released a store surveillance image of the suspect. They are not naming the store.

Police say Doddy may be in possession of a blue dome-styled camping tent.

"Law enforcement officials continue to urge the public to take the necessary safety precautions when visiting rest stop areas, campgrounds and other outdoor areas during the holiday weekend," the state police said in a news bulletin.

Police say they have received numerous tips and leads from the public.  Anyone with any information or sightings of the vehicle should immediately call 911.
