Police: Man Tried To Abduct Child From Stroller In Elgin

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man tried to abduct a boy from a stroller in northwest suburban Elgin Thursday evening, police said.

Just before 8 p.m., a 45-year-old woman was walking with the boy in a stroller and a girl on foot near Gertrude and Morgan streets, according to a statement from Elgin police.

An unmarked white cargo van made a U-turn and pulled up to them, and a man got out and tried to take the boy, police said.

The woman held onto the stroller and yelled for help. The suspect ran back to the van and another man at the wheel drove off, police said.

The children weren't hurt, but the woman suffered minor injuries, police said.

The person who tried to grab the boy is described as a Hispanic man about 30 years old with short, dark curly hair and an average height and medium build.
