Police: Man Killed, Another Wounded In North Lawndale Shooting
(STMW) -- A man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side early Saturday, police said.
About 1 a.m., a 25-year-old man was in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw when a light-colored van pulled up and someone inside opened fire, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. The man was shot several times in the chest and arm.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Greer said. Another man, 18, also suffered a graze wound to his back. His condition had stabilized.
Five minutes later, Harrison District officers were flagged down in the 1100 block of South St. Louis. A citizen told them that there were people shooting nearby on Grenshaw, Greer said.
Officers checked the block and found a man who matched the description they were given, Greer said. The man ran east on Grenshaw.
Officers chased after him, who turned toward officers with a gun in his hand, Greer said. Police then shot at the man, but missed. He was taken into custody in the alley of the 3500 block of West Grenshaw and charges against him are pending.
Greer said the incidents are being investigated separately.
