Police: Man Chases Cell Phone Robber From Red Line, Resulting In Arrest

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with stealing an iPhone on the Red Line after the victim chased him down at the Chinatown stop early Tuesday on the Near South Side.

Cornell Hutchins, 19, of the 3700 block of North California faces one felony count of robbery, according to Chicago Police. He was ordered held on a $75,000 bond Wednesday.

Hutchins stole a 25-year-old man's cell phone on a Red Line train, then got off in the 100 block of West Cermak Road about 1:50 a.m., police said.

The victim chased Hutchins, who eventually threw the phone to the ground, police said. The man called police, and Hutchins was arrested nearby.

No one was hurt, police said.

Hutchins will next appear in court on Friday.
