Police Investigating Graffiti In Murder Of Aaren O'Connor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police are following up on several leads generated over the weekend in the Aaron O'Connor murder investigation.
CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports they are also looking into graffiti scrawled onto a building across the street from where O'Connor was shot. Some, including O'Connor's boyfriend, wonder if it could lead to her killer.
It's a search for answers he may never get, but that's not stopping Carlos Sorto from going door-to-door in the Pilsen neighborhood where his girlfriend Aaren O'Connor was shot and killed by a stray bullet as she sat in her car.
"I feel that the neighbors should start to do something before it gets worse and worse and then they have to realize 'oh my gosh we should have done something a while ago,'" Sorto said.
Sorto says going door-to-door, "gives me something to do in the middle of the day. It's extremely hard to cope. It honestly feels impossible to cope."
By Sorto's side today, Chicago Police Commander Ron Holt, who knows the pain of losing a loved one. His son Blair Holt was killed by a gunman on a CTA bus in May of 2007.
"Losing someone that you love, so close to you, their memory in your mind, never goes away," Holt said.
One thing both men find promising is graffiti spray-painted on a building on the block. It reads "Aaren O'Connor's killers" with an arrow pointing up.
"It's nice that it brings attention in a way," Sorto said. "It would be nice if we could get more tangible evidence that we could use in the end."
Holt says it's a sign that the community is trying to help police catch the killer.
"You have an entire community here that are watching out and they want to do something about this and they want Aaren's murderer to be brought to justice," Holt said.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for Aaren O'Connor's murder.
