Police Investigating 3 Recent Attacks In Midlothian
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three brazen attacks in Midlothian have put many in the southwest suburb on edge.
WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, in the past three weeks, two women and a 17-year-old girl have been beaten and robbed by a masked man.
One victim, a 26-year-old mother, had just taken her baby out of her car when the man grabbed her.
"The only thing I was thinking about was (my child)," she tells CBS 2's Mai Martinez. "My main goal was to protect her."
She says she locked her child in the back seat before her attacker threw her to the ground. The man shook out her purse and stole some money before running off, leaving her with a broken nose, two black eyes and a possible concussion.
Midlothian Police Chief Harold Kaufman said police have stepped up patrols and detectives' hours on the case.
"I know the residents are upset," he said. "We've heard complaints on why they weren't notified, and things of that nature. It was put in the newspaper, and unfortunately at this time we don't have a reverse 911."
Kaufman said a resident notification system is slated to be in place next week.
Meantime, he encouraged people to be on the lookout. He said women, especially, should not walk alone.
