Police Fatally Shoot Man Wanted On Warrant In Antioch

(CBS) -- Police shot and killed a man wanted on a warrant early Saturday morning in the northern suburbs.

Two officers from the Lake County sheriff's office and two from the McHenry sheriff's office encountered the man, identified as 53-year-old Gerald Boyes, in the parking lot Topper's Bar at 26211 Rt.173 in Antioch at about 12:15 a.m., according to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

While attempting to take Boyes into custody, police say he displayed a handgun at the officers and was then shot by the officers. Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced him dead. A gun was recovered at the scene, police said.

Boyes was wanted for a probation violation in Florida and police say he was in possession of a vehicle reported stolen in Florida.
