Police: Elgin Man Swallowed Heroin To Hide Evidence
CHICAGO (STNG) -- A northwest suburban Elgin man who swallowed heroin in an attempt to hide it from police Monday has been charged with a slew of felonies.
During the course of a four month investigation, 32-year-old Angelo Hopson delivered and sold heroin to an undercover officer on three separate occasions, according to a statement from Elgin police.
On Monday, police executed a search warrant at his home in the 800 block of Seminole Drive. Just before police made entry, Hopson swallowed an unknown amount of heroin in an attempt to destroy the evidence, police said.
Police said he was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was treated and released to police Wednesday.
Hopson was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church, five counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and obstructing justice, all felonies, police said.
His bond hearing is scheduled Thursday at the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
