Police: Doctor Fondled Handicapped Woman During Home Visits
(STMW) -- A doctor was charged Friday with sexually assaulting and abusing a 59-year-old handicapped woman at her home in northwest suburban Des Plaines.
Charles S. Dehaan, 59, of the 1600 block of Hidden Creek Lane in Belvidere, was charged Friday with aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a physically handicapped person, both felonies, Des Plaines police said in a release.
In 2009, Dehaan would make monthly visits to the a 59-year-old woman's home who recently underwent surgery, the release said.
Over the course of 3 1/2 years, Dehaan allegedly fondled the woman and exposed himself, exhibiting "evidence of sexual arousal," the release said. The woman had limited ability to prevent to prevent the unwanted actions due to her medical condition.
Dehaan's license came under temporary suspension last February when allegations arose that he was sexually abusing his patients at his practice in Rockford, the release said.
He is currently out on bond after being indicted on an unrelated federal complaint filed this February for Medicare fraud, the release said.
Dehaan has pleaded not guilty to the federal charges and will appear for a status hearing in the case April 3, federal court records show.
Des Plaines police are asking anyone with information regarding Dehaan's practices to contact them at (847) 391-5400.
