Police Pursuit In Chicago Ends In Schaumburg, 4 Arrested
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Four people were taken into custody following a police chase that ended in the northwest suburbs.
Jason Baker, 21, and Michael Baker, Leeza Newport and Armani Serrano, all 18, have been charged with misdemeanors. Jason Baker was also charged with a felony for fleeing police.
Chicago police believe the car was involved in a shooting near 32nd and South Morgan Street Saturday around 10:45 p.m. and notified Illinois State Police.
State troopers caught up with and chased the car in the northbound lanes of I-94 near Garfield.
At some point, state police said the suspect's car was going up to 90 miles per hour.
The chase lasted for about an hour before the suspects drove over a raised barrier on Illinois Route 53.
State police said the car stalled on Higgins Frontage Road in Schaumburg.
Inside the car, police found four people and arrested them. Police taped off the car overnight while they searched for evidence.
Serrano, of Lake Station, Indiana, and Newport, of Chicago, were both charged with one misdemeanor count each for possession of cannabis.
Michael Baker, of Hammond, Indiana, was charged with a misdemeanor for possession of a police scanner.
Jason Baker, of Chicago, was charged with one felony count of aggravated fleeing from police and misdemeanors for reckless driving, speeding more than 35 miles over the speed limit, and having never been issued a license. He was also cited for operating an uninsured vehicle.
Police say no one was hurt in the shooting and chase.
