Police Arrest Three Men Following Reported Pistol-Whipping At Wedding

(CBS) – An alleged pistol-whipping at a far north suburban wedding resulted early Monday in the arrest of three men, the Lake County Sheriff's Department reports.

Sheriff's deputies responded around 2:40 a.m. to Lakefront Drive in unincorporated Zion for a call of a battery in progress. They learned a physical confrontation occurred in which a gun was displayed, the sheriff's office said in a news release. The incident reportedly occurred during wedding festivities.

Oscar A. Cervantes, 28, of Waukegan, allegedly pointed a handgun at a 23-year-old victim, and Beach Park resident James H. Bakken allegedly struck the victim in the face with a gun.

The two suspects and a third man, Matthew Bowen, 25, of Beach Park, were arrested after they attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle, police said. Deputies located two loaded .380 handguns in the vehicle, the news release said.

Bakken was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Use of Weapon by a Felon and Mob Action.  Bowen was charged with Mob Action, Assault, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis and Disorderly Conduct. Cervantes was charged with Mob Action and Aggravated Assault.

All three are being held at the Lake County Jail awaiting a Tuesday court hearing, the sheriff's office said.
