Mount Prospect Woman Charged With DUI After Striking ISP Trooper On I-294
(STMW) -- A Mount Prospect woman has been charged with DUI after she struck an Illinois State Police trooper on the northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294) near west suburban Berkeley Saturday afternoon.
At 2:46 p.m., the 28-year-old trooper was conducting a traffic stop on northbound I-294 near St. Charles Road when a maroon Honda struck him, an ISP spokesman said.
The Honda continued driving and struck a silver Acura, which rolled over, police said.
The driver of the Honda, 55-year-old Leslie W. Thurow of Mount Prospect, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated leaving the scene of a police-involved crash, aggravated DUI and aggravated DUI involving personal injury, police said.
The District 15 trooper was taken to a hospital where he remained in critical condition with non-life-threatening injuries Sunday morning, police said.
The Acura's driver and six passengers were taken to hospitals as a result of the crash. The seven victims, who are all related, include a 37-year-old woman, a 43-year-old man, a three-year-old boy, a 63-year-old woman, a 73-year-old man, an 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy.
Thurow was scheduled to appear in bond court in Maybrook Sunday morning, police said.
Two lanes were closed on northbound I-294 until about 6:30 p.m., police said.
