Pleasantly cool day ahead in the Chicago area on Monday

Rain for rush hour on Tuesday

CHICAGO (CBS) — A Weather Alert is in effect Tuesday, as heavy rain is likely to impact your morning commute and potentially even lead to street flooding.

Following one to two inches of soaking rain in some areas on Sunday, another storm is approaching the area rapidly Monday night. Sprinkles begin to fall after 10 p.m., and rain becomes more widespread and heavier by sunrise on Tuesday.

Tuesday morning's commute looks like a soaker. Widespread rain will lead to ponds on roadways, likely slowing down traffic. Rain is forecast to taper off late Tuesday, with more pleasant weather returning mid-week.

We are also monitoring a developing hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, likely to become a significant storm and impact Florida on Thursday. Depending on the storm's track after landfall, it may bring us scattered rain showers this weekend. Stay tuned for forecast updates.
