Person Seriously Hurt Jumping From Roof During Roseland Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was seriously hurt jumping from the roof of a home during a fire early Monday in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The blaze began in the second floor of the single-family home in the 11500 block of South Lafeyette Avenue at 12:23 a.m., Chicago Fire Department spokesman Juan Hernandez said.

A 54-year-old man made it to the roof and jumped off to escape the fire, Hernandez said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious-to-critical condition.

No one else was in the home.

The blaze was extinguished 25 minutes later and the cause remains under investigation, Hernandez said.
