Person In Custody After Shooting, Kidnapping In Riverdale

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A domestic incident Tuesday evening in south suburban Riverdale led to the shooting death of one man, the kidnapping of two children, and a high-speed chase that ended in the West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago.

Riverdale Police Chief David DeMik said it started around 4:30 p.m., when police got calls about shots fired, and a man abducting two children from the 13800 block of Stewart Avenue.

"Police officers received information that a subject was putting children in a vehicle, and fleeing the scene," DeMik said.

When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman had been shot. The man, 33-year-old Kevin Denson had suffered several gunshot wounds, and was pronounced dead at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island. The woman was not seriously wounded.

After a high-speed chase that ended near 116th and Laflin streets in Chicago, the children were found unhurt. Police were questioning that man, but have not confirmed if he is a suspect in the shooting, or if another person was involved.
