Person Arrested In Fatal Shooting In Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) -- One person has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting early Sunday in southwest suburban Joliet.

Police responding to a call of shots fired about 3:30 a.m. on Mississippi Avenue near East Washington Street started chasing people they saw running from the area, according to a statement from Joliet police.

Once they caught up with the people, they found one person armed with a handgun and were told another person had been shot, police said.

Officers returned back to Mississippi Avenue and found the 27-year-old person lying in the alley with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

At 3:42 a.m., Dameon Anderson, of Joliet, was pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, according to the Will County Coroner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Investigators searched a residence that the group had been in before the incident and arrested one person in connection with the shooting, police said.

Joliet police are continuing to conduct a homicide investigation.
