People's Promenade Walk To Light Up 606 Trail
(CBS) -- Without bad weather as an excuse, people are expected to head out today to one of Chicago's newer public spaces to enjoy the winter.
Managers of the 606 have been holding quarterly illumination parties since the West Side trail opened in June.
Due to the early sunset these days, the light from the People's Promenade is not only beautiful but practical, says Caroline O'Boyle. She's a program coordinator with the Land for Public Trust, which manages the 606.
The promenade includes cyclists dressed as winter sprites and walkers with backpacks designed by a Puerto Rican artist to look like fireflies, in addition to drum circles and bonfires, complete with storytellers and smores.
O'Boyle says it's the perfect way to start off the winter break for many families. The event runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
