Boy, 12, and girl, 15, struck by gunfire at Chicago's 31st Street Beach

Chaos erupts at Chicago's 31st Street Beach

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were shot Friday night near the 31st Street Beach on the city's South Side.

At 9:19 p.m., the boy was walking with a group of people in the 500 block of East 31st Street when someone in a silver sedan fired shots. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the left leg and was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where he was reported in good condition.

The girl was sitting in a vehicle when she was struck in the back by gunfire. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

A video posted to the Citizen app documented the gunshots, followed by people running away.

Someone, presumably the 12-year-old boy, was then seen on the bridge over the Metra Electric tracks receiving help with what appears to be a wound on the leg.

No one was in custody late Friday night.

Wentworth Area detectives were investigating.
