Pat Fitzgerald Is Really Salty About Northwestern's Struggles
(CBS) About 11 months ago, Northwestern football was off to a 4-0 start and had a 10-point second-half lead on then-No. 4 Ohio State in Evanston in front of a national television audience.
Since then, it's all been downhill for the Wildcats, and it's wearing on coach Pat Fitzgerald.
After losing seven of eight to end last season -- the lone win coming over fellow in-state pushover Illinois -- Northwestern has dropped its first two games this season, to California and Northern Illinois at home.
To that end, Fitzgerald has some strong words.
"We're an embarrassment to anyone who's ever put on the purple and white," Fitzgerald said, according to insidenu.com.
Asked about fan discontent over the team's recent performance, Fitzgerald responded, "No sh**" before continuing into his answer, insudenu.com reported.
Northwestern has dealt with some roster turmoil too, with starting running back Venric Mark transferring before the season for personal reasons and receiver Christian Jones suffering a season-ending knee injury in preseason camp.
Northwestern has a bye this Saturday before hosting Western Illinois on Sept. 20.
