Parents, Listen Up: Don't Buy Your Kid A 'Dory Fish'

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Kids are now clamoring to get their hands on their very own absent-minding fish, like the one in the hit movie "Finding Dory."

Now, here is a clear warning to parents.

Don't buy one, CBS 2's Marissa Bailey reports.

"It isn't the best pet," said Brian Levinson, owner of Tank It Easy. He has been fielding calls from parents, wanted to find Dory, right into their homes.

"Unfortunately, we're the bearer of bad news a lot by saying, 'You can't have a Dory, not today.'"

The Dory Fish, it's really called a Blue Tang, is apparently high maintenance.

"It's a reef fish... they're very delicate," Levinson said "If you look at it the wrong way, they get what's called 'ick.' And they get little white spots on them they get stressed."

"And you need to have like a 180-gallon tank."

And live coral, a filtration system and a pump/

So parents out there who think they're going to have a small fish bowl with a Dory fish inside, it's not happening.

The Shedd's go-to marine expert agrees, the Dory Fish is a bad idea.

"Saltwater fish are fairly difficult to care for and it really does require somebody with a little bit more experience and knowledge to care for them properly," said Lise Watson

"There are plenty of fish in the sea," said Levinson.
