Ostrowski: Your Bears Draft Cheat Sheet

By Joe Ostrowski-

(CBS) You made it. Those extra two weeks waiting for the NFL Draft felt like two months. The NFL made a mistake, but all will be forgotten once Roger Goodell gives Jadeveon Clowney the double back tap bro hug tonight.

If you're as sick as I am, you've been looking at 2014 mock drafts for the last 376 days. What can you say? It does combine the two of our most popular interests in this country.

As for the Bears, general manager Phil Emery plans on using these three days to fix the defense, though he wants young impact players on both sides of the ball. On defense, he has the young part down. It's a little early to judge heading into Emery's third draft with Chicago, but none of the seven defensive players he's drafted so far has made an impact.

So why again do we care about mock drafts?

1. They're fun. You're allowed to have fun when discussing sports.

2. Former Colts general manager Bill Polian told Sports Illustrated that his organization paid close attention to the mock drafters when he was running the draft room in Indianpolis. Polian said, "We found that through the first 20 picks, they were 86 to 89 percent accurate in terms of which players would go that high."

Sounds like reason enough for me.

Mock drafters come from all walks of life. They are former scouts, GMs, players. Some cover the NFL. Others break down college football. The NFL Draft is the Super Bowl for a few. Maybe you know one of those draft nerds that has been writing down every pick since he was a child.

With the Bears' needs on defense and having their highest pick since 2008, you would expect there to be a consensus on who Chicago will draft tonight. Nope.

I went through 50 mock drafts. Don't start. I'm aware of my issues. Someone was going to die if I saw the numbers 3.0 or 4.0 again.

The mockers have 14 different players slotted to the Bears at No. 14. Despite it supposedly being The Emery Six, people.

For the breakdown, 46 percent say the Bears go safety, of which 32 percent are predicting Calvin Pryor. Emery is a tough read. If we have learned one thing, it's to follow the versatility.

Here's a look at what everyone's predicting in the 50 mock drafts I went through.
