One-time rebates offered to some Illinois residents on property and income taxes

Illinois to begin sending out property tax and income tax rebates

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Gov. JB Pritzker is starting the rollout for income and property tax rebates for some Illinois taxpayers.

The Family Relief Plan offers one-time rebates.

The property tax rebate goes up to $300.

For the income tax rebate, taxpayers who file as a single person will get a $50 rebate, couples who file jointly get $100, and families with dependents can get up to $300.

Not everyone qualifies though.

You'll get the property tax rebate if you paid property taxes last year.

Single people must make less than $250,000, and couples must earn less than $500,000.

You'll get the income tax rebate if you lived in the state last year, and made less than $200,000 if filing single. Couples must earn less than $400,000.

Rebates could take several months to be issued, but you can check the status at tax.illinois.gov/rebates.

The rebate will be sent the same way your income tax refund was – paper check or direct deposit.
