One Injured In Elmhurst House Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was injured in a house fire Thursday afternoon in west suburban Elmhurst.

Firefighters responded at 2:19 p.m. to the 200 block of North Highland Avenue and found smoke and fire coming from the side of a single-family home, according to a statement from the Elmhurst Fire Department.

One person had self-evacuated and was treated at the scene for minor injuries, the fire department said. A dog was rescued from the home.

The home sustained substantial damage to the bathroom and second floor, the fire department said.

Investigators determined the soldering of pipes during a plumbing repair caused the fire, fire officials said.
