One Injured In Crash In Stolen Van On Southwest Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person traveling in a stolen van was injured in a crash Sunday night after speeding away from Chicago Police officers in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers spotted a 2002 Dodge van disregard a stop sign about 11:40 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Roosevelt, according to Chicago Police. The officers then learned the van, which contained multiple males, was reported stolen.

The officers activated their squad car's emergency equipment and attempted to curb the stolen vehicle, police said. The van stopped for a moment, then sped away. The officers did not pursue.

A short time later, the van crashed into two parked vehicles near West Ogden and South St. Louis avenues, police said. One passenger, a male whose age was not known, was thrown from the vehicle and taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The rest of the people in the van ran away after the crash, police said.

Additional information was not immediately available as the police Major Accidents Investigation Unit and Area North detectives investigate the incident.
