Officials: One Dead After Car Drives Into Romeoville Pond

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman died after she drove a vehicle into a pond late Monday night in southwest suburban Romeoville.

Cynthia Breig, 33, was driving a gold 2002 Honda north on Lakeview Drive when she went through a stop sign at Remington Boulevard, drove through a grassy parkway and into a retention pond at 11:29 p.m., according to a statement from Romeoville police.

Divers checked the submerged vehicle and pulled Breig from the car, police said.

Breig, of Bolingbrook, was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 1:55 a.m., according to the Will County coroner's office.

The car was towed out of the water, police said. No one else was inside.

The crash remains under investigation.
