Oak Park Residents Near Eisenhower Expressway Expansion To Vote On Sound Barriers
(CBS) -- Ballots are going out to some residents of Oak Park whose homes stand in the shadow of the Eisenhower Expressway expansion project reports WBBM's Regine Schlesinger.
The ballots will ask whether they want sound barriers, some as high as 17 feet in places, to shield them from the extra noise. Village manager Cara Pavlicek says who gets the ballots is determined by a very complicated federal formula of who might benefit from noise walls.
Pavilcek says at public forums, they've heard from residents on both sides of the wall question - some who want it because it might boost their property values and others who oppose it because they think it would look ugly.
